Though one woman’s story, THE TALE shows the complexity of child sexual abuse and the protective power of memory and storytelling in ways never-before-seen on screen.
One of the most important things we can do to take action against sexual abuse is to deepen our understanding of what really occurs on every level for the child and the myriad of experiences and feelings survivors face. Changing the conversation to grasp the complexities will help our ability to protect children and their families, to take care of those who have been abused without furthering the trauma, and to support adult survivors to heal.
There are many ways you can get involved…
“ This movie delicately chisels away at the cement that silences survivors and emboldens abusers. It adeptly demonstrates the complexity and dynamics of child abuse, the co-existence of love AND hate for an abuser, and grooming behaviors that groom and silence both children and communities; Focused, gripping, and with scalpel-like precision, The TALE opens our eyes, ears, hearts, and minds to an understanding of the dynamics of child abuse and provides hope for the many who labor in silence. ” — Gina Maisto Smith Lawyer in the field of Child Sexual Abuse
You do not have to be a survivor of abuse to speak to someone about help.
