Chances are, you or someone you know has been impacted by some form of sexual abuse. In fact, statistics report that 1 out of 10 children will be sexually abused before they turn 18. Plus research shows that people who are sexually violated as children are far more likely to experience psychological problems often lasting into adulthood, including post-traumatic stress syndrome, depression, suicide, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, school dropout and relationship problems. Dealing with and responding to this traumatic experience can be difficult to do on your own. We are committed to providing a sample of resources for all in our communities who have been touched by sexual abuse. We hope these resources on the following pages are helpful.
If you or someone you know needs immediate help, please call the RAINN national hotline:
800.656.HOPE (4673)
Support is available 24/7.
For those in other countries, please go to our GET HELP MAP to find the resources for you.
“ There was a lightbulb moment when I was making this other film about women all around the world, and it seemed that every other woman – regardless of class, culture, or color – had an abuse story to tell. Their stories just floored me because they all had a system or a paradigm that looked like my story. Suddenly, I couldn’t see it as my own private little narrative and knew that it was time to turn my story into a film. ” — Jennifer Fox filmmaker THE TALE
You do not have to be a survivor of abuse to speak to someone about help.
